    Member for Eastern Victoria Region

    Johan Scheffer was elected to the Victorian Parliament at the 2002 State Election and then re-elected in 2006 and 2010.

    Johan sees it as his job as an MP to speak up for individuals and local organisations and to encourage residents to have their say. As a member of the Victorian Opposition, an important part of Johan's work is to hold the Baillieu Government to account and to help local organisations such as schools, health services, environmental groups, pre-school centres, seniors’ groups and sporting clubs to access resources.

    Currently, Johan is a member of the Drugs and Crime Prevention Committee and member of the Legislative Council Standing Committee on Environment and Planning. In previous Parliaments, Johan Scheffer chaired the Drugs and Crime Prevention Committee, the Family and Community Development Committee and the Law Reform Committee.

    As an ALP Member of the Victorian Parliament for Eastern Victoria Region, Johan makes it his business to meet individuals and organisations from across the Region including the Mornington Peninsula, Gippsland, the Latrobe Valley, the Yarra Ranges and the Bass Coast.

    Johan Scheffer takes a keen interest in the many issues that confront Eastern Victoria Region such as education and training, health, aged care, services for people with disabilities and community safety as well the impact of climate change on the energy industry, agriculture and tourism.

    Johan supports Labor’s commitment to further reduce green house emissions; create a fairer Victoria; and generate more jobs and opportunities in regional and rural areas.

Eastern Victoria Region is a mixed urban and rural electorate. Natural features include Wilsons Promontory National Park, the Dandenong Ranges National Park, Yellingsbo State Nature Reserve, Olinda State Forest, the Yarra Ranges National Park and the Upper Yarra Dam. The Region also includes Corner Inlet, the Snowy River country, Mount Baw Baw, and a series of lakes and islands. It covers Phillip Island, French Island and the Mornington Peninsula.Industries include tourism, intensive farming and the Yarra Valley wine growing region.
